That is the phrase I typed into Google recently after rebooting my laptop for the third time in a row.
Two weeks ago, I expressed gratitude for having such a great computer. This week, I wanted to pitch it against the wall.
Now, I’m back to thinking my PC the best thing since SEO. I’ll let you in on a few of the steps I took to increase my PC performance. I ended up saving myself about $1,000 or $2,000 since I didn’t have to buy a new computer or at least several hundred to hire a computer expert to come fix my machine.
1. Visit PC Pit Stop. If you wish, sign up and have them run a check on your computer. This site was recommended on a PC-related forum. Although I did not have the check done, I was able to get some useful information so I could fix my computer myself.

2. Click on “start” in the lower left corner of your computer.
3. Click “run.”
4. Type “msconfig” without the quotes into the text box. Click OK.
5. Select the Startup panel.
6. Assess if you need all of those programs to start up when you turn on your computer.
7. To determine which you need, look them up with Google or another search engine. I discovered that a DVD launcher, RealPlayer, QuickTime and other odds and ends were starting up and hogging memory every time I turned on my computer. I determined which items I needed and deselected the others.
8. After you make your selections, shut down and restart your computer so the changes can take affect.
9. Voila. Your computer should be running faster now.

Deb,
I saw the link on Facebook to you post and what perfect timing. Two of our laptops have gone from a sprint to jog recently and this was very helpful info that was easy to follow.
Thank you for this!!
Kelli,
Excellent! I’m glad this could help someone. Figuring it out was fun, and my computer feels like new now.
