The 5 Best Online Marketing Blogs Ever

Are you new here? If yes, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Happy reading!

When it comes to search engine optimization, I don’t think you can read too many of the good online marketing blogs.

Since search engines often change how they rank sites, it pays to keep up to date with other webmasters and online marketers and hear the news straight from the front lines.

That said, these are the blogs I turn to again and again for online marketing news, perspectives that help me increase site rankings, and even occasional entertainment.

DoshDosh: Making Money Online

Recent articles on narrowcasting and how marketers influence how we think provided much food for thought recently.

The blog also includes less theoretical posts such as one on how to increase your Alexa ranking.

Search Engine Marketing Guide

Jennifer Laycock’s site offers blog posts from a number of the industry leaders. A juicy article by Debra Mastaler discusses how the writer’s strike means more people will turn to watching video content online.

Seems 44% of the people surveyed stated they’ll continue to watch their favorite show even if they’re repeats and 26% said they’d probably watch more reality TV since those types of shows aren’t likely to be affected by the strike. (I love you Simon!)

But the most interesting number IMO was this one:

16% said they’ll watch more original content on the Internet as a way to keep themselves entertained during the strike.

Caroline Middlebrook’s Making Money Online

I “met” Caroline Middlebrook through online marketing training we took together. She wrote excellent posts in the forums and started a blog to document her journey to make a living online. As a former software developer, she has good start on the skills required to run an online business.

She wrote a Big Juicy Twitter Guide that continues to receive positive attention from multiple folks in the online marketing world. Even though I was on board with Twitter, I still learned a good deal about the best ways to use this tool. If you’re using Twitter, Tweet me.

Copyblogger

Ever felt stuck for a newsletter article or blog post idea? Brian Clark writes about how to write for the web. Recently, he wrote a post about how re-purposing Cosmopolitan (yes, Cosmo!) headlines can help you come up with ideas for articles. (I used his technique to title this post.)

SEOMoz

Would any list be complete without a link to SEOMoz? We all know Rand Fishkin knows his stuff. Unfortunately, the posts have not thrilled me as of late. I wish I could say otherwise. A recent post listing topics covered in their special member area added little value to my SEO work and seemed like more of an ad for the membership area. However, 95% of the time, the content is useful and valuable.

Deborah — Congrats on your blog’s new look; it’s wonderful with strong content (thx especially for these online mktg blog ideas above). One thought: the right-flush columns appear side-by-side instead of one single column of content. At first glance, my eye wasn’t sure where to initially orient. That may be something to consider for future changes. Your content is useful & timely! Congrats again.

Excellent choices – especially SEOmoz and Jennifer Laycock’s. I posted some of my own a couple months ago – http://tinyurl.com/2k9y2y

Kari,

Thank you for the link to your favorites.

Jill, I emailed you back and thank you for the comments. I’m looking for a designer to help me with the color — not my forte!
